How to help bees during the June Gap

Here are some effective strategies to help your garden thrive during the June Gap:

🌼 For Your Garden:

  1. Plant a Variety of Blooming Flowers:
    • Choose plants with staggered blooming periods to ensure continuous nectar and pollen sources.
    • Good options include:
      • Herbs: Thyme, oregano, chives, and borage.
      • Perennials: Echinacea, lavender, and foxgloves.
      • Annuals: Cosmos, calendula, and marigolds.
  2. Incorporate Native Plants:
    • Native flowers are often more resilient and better suited to support local pollinators.
    • Examples include wild roses, yarrow, and purple coneflower.
  3. Establish a Wildflower Patch:
    • A section of mixed wildflowers can provide a diverse and long-lasting nectar source.
    • Our local farmer has set aside areas of land to be re wilded whilst re-establishing hedgerows of dog rose, hawthorn etc..
  4. Avoid Chemical Pesticides:
    • These can harm bees and other beneficial insects, especially when they are already struggling to find food.

No bees - no food!
